Two full-time positions, initially for 6 months, renewable up to the end of the project are available for a highly motivated post-doc to join our multidisciplinary team including researchers and clinicians. Project summary
Miguel Seabra laboratory focuses on the molecular mechanisms involved in hereditary and age-related retinal degeneration. We are seeking two highly talented and motivated postdocs to work on two projects aiming to study:
a) Lysosome dysfunction in age-macular degeneration using cellular and animal models;
b) Recovering neurofunction and promoting neuroprotection in diabetic retinopathy by studying the role of synucleins in retinal degeneration in animal models.

CEDOC is a new research center of NOVA Medical School with an international reputation on cutting edge research in Biomedical research, with focus in mechanisms of ageing and chronic diseases and is committed to training the next generation of research scientists. The Seabra Laboratory (Molecular Mechanisms of Disease - MMD) is involved in several national and international projects that cover from basic research to translational and clinical research.

Requirements
• PhD in Life Sciences or other relevant areas;
• Solid background in Cell Biology and/or Disease Mechanisms;
• Hands-on experience with fluorescence microscopy and cell culture;
• Strong publication record is essential;
• Certification for handling animals is desirable;
• Excellent knowledge of English.

Key responsibilities
• Developing specific research project(s) under guidance from Group Leader;
• Reporting and presenting work at MMD meetings and externally at international meetings;
• Providing specialist advice and training, sharing knowledge and expertise;
• Providing significant contribution to the production of research papers for publication;
• Improving established protocols and/or developing new protocols.
